The Agricultural Institute of San Michele all’Adige is located in the province of Trento. It was founded by the Diet of the Tyrol region based in Innsbruck on 12 January 1874. The purpose is to promote Tyrolean agriculture. His first director was Edmund Mach. In 1919 it became part of the Kingdom of Italy and was governed by a Consortium between the State and the Province of Trento from 1926 until 1988. From 1990 it returned to its original unity of functions, thanks to the articulation in the two Centers, scholastic and experimental. Today he is part of the Edmund Mach Foundation.
The crops
The term Crops means the technical unit of the countryside, divided into different corporate bodies, in turn subdivided into parcels.
The land cultivated by the San Michele Agricultural Institute is the property of Patrimonio del Trentino spa, the Autonomous Province of Trento and the De Bellat Foundation. They are owned by the farm on free use and for rent. On these soils, the company mainly cultivates grapevines and apple trees not only for productive but also experimental, educational and demonstrative purposes.
The winery
The winery of the Agricultural Institute of San Michele develops inside the ancient Augustinian monastery dating back to the 12th century. It represents not only an important historical-architectural document, but also a testimony of the Trentino vine-wine tradition. Over the years, the winery has been extended several times, from the Renaissance period (16th century) to 2004. The current appearance represents an excellent example of the combination of history, centenary charm and rational modernity. The structure is now equipped with a modern and technological wine-making cellar and a special department for the production of the classic method sparkling wine. In order to best represent the provincial wine scene, the winery is still committed to producing a consistent range of products obtained from the harvest and transformation of the grapes coming from the best company vineyards. Their annual production is around 240,000 bottles of wine, 13,000 bottles of classic method sparkling wine and 7,000 bottles of grappa and distillates.
And have you ever tasted the excellent products of this winery? Take this opportunity, you won’t regret it! Their products are excellent and highly appreciated!
Good day! Ilde
