The wine Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Bio by Antico Broilo winery
The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso of the Antico Broilo winery is produced with native Refosco grapes. We are talking about one of the vines that are most appreciated in the town of Prepotto in the Eastern Hills of Friuli.
The Refosco is produced with the homonymous native vine produced in the north east of Italy. Its name probably derives from “rap fosc”, ie dark bunch. The wine commonly known as Refosco is produced with Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes. This name is driven by the purple red color of the peduncle (the branch that connects the stalk to the vine).
This is a small winery with only six hectares of land. It is managed by the Durì family, in full respect of tradition and nature. They are a fully certified organic winery.
THE WINEMAKING
The grapes are harvested manually and placed in boxes to keep the bunch as intact as possible. The winemaking and fermentation are done in a traditional and spontaneous way using only indigenous yeasts. The wine then ages in barrique for 24 months.
Tasting the wine by Antico Broilo
Intense ruby red with some violet reflections. The aroma is elegant with hints of ripe red fruit, wild blackberry, plum, violet that leave room for herbaceous notes. Warm and savory on the palate; a great refined and elegant wine with velvety tannins. Excellent correspondence between taste and aromas. Persistence is also good.
FOOD PAIRING
It goes well with pasta dishes dressed with meat sauces, with cold cuts and cheeses typical of the area. The combination with egg and pepper dishes is interesting. The softness of the refosco can limit the bitter tendency of the chicken liver.
