THE PRODUCT
The Salicornia, also known as sea asparagus due to its clear resemblance to the wild asparagus, is a spontaneous plant that grows in the wetlands and lagoons of Grado in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
The etymology of the name comes from the Latin where “sal” indicates salt and “conus” the horn because of the shape of its branches.
Rich in vitamin C, it was also used by the Vikings during long sea voyages across the oceans. The juice of this plant has soothing properties for those suffering from thyroid.
The Salicornia di Lagunando has a delicate, slightly salty flavor; excellent with fish appetizers but also cold cuts and cheeses. It goes well with traditional Mediterranean dishes and in particular with fish and shellfish.
