THE WINE
The Bolgheri Rosso of the Le Macchiole winery is a blend of Merlot for the 40%, Cabernet Franc for the 30%, Cabernet Sauvignon for the 15% and Syrah for the 15%. All the grapes come from different plots of the vineyards located in Vignone, Puntone and Casa Nuova.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest, strictly manual, takes place between the end of August and the first ten days of September; only the selected grapes are brought to the cellar for winemaking. the fermentation takes place in steel, and only indigenous yeasts are used; maceration on the skins lasts about 15 days. The wine ages for about 10 months; 80% in second, third and fourth passage barriques and 20% in concrete tanks. After blending and bottling, the wine rests a few months in the cellar before being placed on the market,
THE TASTING
Ruby red with violet reflections. The aroma is intense with pleasant hints of cherries and blackberries that leave room for spicy notes to close with hints of licorice. Intense and fresh on the palate; it is certainly a powerful and elegant wine with well-present but balanced tannins. Very long persistence.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat, hard cheeses and also with game.
