The wine Barbera d’Alba Vigna Francia from Giacomo Conterno winery
The Barbera d’Alba Vigna Francia 2017 of the Giacomo Conterno winery is produced with 100% Barbera grapes that grow in the Francia vineyard from which it takes its name. The vineyard is located in the Langhe, one of the most important areas for the cultivation of grapes in Piedmont, it is considered a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
THE WINEMAKING
After manual harvesting, the selected grapes are brought to the cellar for winemaking which begins with de-stemming and soft pressing. The fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature. The wine then ages in large oak barrels for at least 20 months before being bottled.
Tasting the Barbera by Giacomo Conterno
Intense ruby red. The aroma is very elegant with notes of black cherries alternating with floral hints of violet and lavender to leave room for delicate scents of graphite. Very mineral on the palate (this is a characteristic of the Francia cru). Full-bodied, very well balanced. Excellent correspondence between aromas and flavor. The persistence is also very long.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat but also with cold cuts. Must try with baked lasagna.
