The Wine
The Gewurztraminer Kolbenhof from the Hofstatterf winery is born from 100% Gewurztraminer grapes grown and selected in the vineyards owned by the winery. In particular, the grapes for this wine come from a single vine located on the Kolbenhof estate, from which it also takes its name.
Thanks to the micro climate, the ideal position and the age of the vineyards, this estate is considered one of the great crus of Gewurztraminer.
THE WINEMAKING
After manual harvesting, the selected grapes are taken to the cellar for winemaking. The grapes are destemmed softly pressed, and the must is left to rest in contact with the skins for a few hours to enhance the varietal aromas. Fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature. Regarding refinement, the wine rests for approximately eight months in wood on fine yeasts with weekly botonnage. After blending and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for a few more months before being released onto the market.
THE TASTING
Intense straw yellow with greenish reflections. The aroma is refined with notes of peach and apricot that intertwine with hints of exotic fruits such as lychees, mango and passion fruit. Well balanced with excellent freshness on the palate. The correspondence between aromas and flavour is also extraordinary, with a long and persistent finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Excellent with fish, including smoked fish, vegetables and medium-hard cheeses, but also with blue cheeses. Try it with mushrooms.
