THE WINE
The Franconia from the Monviert winery comes from 100% Franconia grapes grown near Cividale in Friuli Venezia Giulia.
Franconia, also known as Blaufränkisch, is a grape variety originating from Lower Austria that has spread to various wine-growing regions, including France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia. Recent research indicates the presence of this vine in Italy since 1500; in Friuli, its cultivation has been documented since 1879. Winemakers have always appreciated this vine for its resistance to diseases, early ripening, ability to withstand harsh winters, and high productivity, together with excellent chromatic and alcohol content.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual. Once in the cellar, after delicately destemming the grapes, we proceed with maceration for a period of between 4 and 6 days to guarantee optimal extraction of the colouring, tannic and aromatic components from the grape skins. Once fermentation is complete, the wine refines in stainless steel tanks for 3-4 months. Subsequently, after blending and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for a few months before being introduced onto the market.
THE TASTING
The wine shows an intense ruby red colour, with shades tending towards purple. The aroma is vinous, enriched by suggestive notes of undergrowth that stand out. On the palate, it reveals a robust, soft and slightly fruity body.
FOOD PAIRINGS
This Franconia from the Monviert winery is perfect as an aperitif but goes well with both, white and red meat, especially if stewed.
