THE WINE
The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso from the Zof farm comes from 100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes from the vineyards owned by the winery. We are in Corno di Rosazzo in the Colli Orientali del Friuli, a small area with a great wine tradition known worldwide. In Corno di Rosazzo, the climate, exposure, and the soil are fundamental factors for excellent wine production.
This native Friulian vine is highly appreciated by wine lovers. With its ruby red color and its intense flavor, it embodies the authenticity and winemaking tradition of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
A family-run business for four generations with fifteen hectares of vineyards equally divided between white wines and red wines with native and non-native grapes. Zof has also boasted the collaboration of Donato Lanati for over ten years, the oenologist-scientist known throughout the wine world for his qualities and philosophy.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest takes place in the first fifteen days of October. Once in the cellar, the grapes macerate in steel at a controlled temperature of 25°C for approximately twenty days. Fermentation takes place in steel tanks at the same temperature as maceration (25°C) and continues until December following the harvest. The wine ages partly in oak barrels and partly in steel tanks for a period that varies depending on the vintage, and after bottling in July, it rests for another three months in the cellar before being released on the market.
THE TASTING
Intense ruby red with violet reflections, the aroma is elegant with pleasant hints of red fruit that leave room for notes of china, to close with floral puffs of violet. Good body and well-structured on the palate, a lively, complex wine, with a nice savory note that gives freshness. Tannins are present but well smoothed. Excellent persistence.
FOOD PAIRINGS
The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso by Zof winery goes well with red meats, game, and hard cheeses. Try it with pork shank.
