Korsic Wines

The winery
Today we visit an important winery in Friuli Venezia Giulia; we are talking about the Korsic winery. We are in Giasbana in the municipality of San Floriano al Collio in the province of Gorizia, close to the Slovenian border. We are in the heart of the DOC Collio.
Here the Korsic family founded their winery, handed down from father to son for many generations. The winery owns all the vineyards that surround the cellar. It is the cru where the grapes that give life to the wines are born, grown, and harvested with care and dedication.
The terroir
The vines grow on the “Ponca” (stratified marl and sandstone of Eocene origin), the classic terroir of the Collio. It is a very particular terroir that crumbles in your hands and is rich in tiny fossils that nourish and enrich the vines, giving the wines the distinctive trait of minerality and salinity that makes them unique.
This area also benefits from warm currents from the Adriatic Sea that keep the grapes dry, and from the Julian Alps to the north that protect the vineyards from cold currents and rain.
The wines
The winery produces four white wines (Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia, and Collo, a blend of Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, and Chardonnay) and only one red, Merlot. All the labels of the Korsic winery are of the highest quality.
As you know by now, we always recommend you to go and visit the winery to “breathe” the passion; in this case, we strongly recommend it because the visit is not limited to the tasting of wines but begins in the vineyard, continues in the cellar and ends with the tastings, this approach allows you to experience all the phases of the cultivation of the grapes and the production of these great wines.
