The History

Umani Ronchi’s history begins in the late 1950s thanks to Gino Umani Ronchi who founded a small agricultural company in Cupramontana in the Marche region. A few years later Gino sold the company to the Bianchi-Bernetti family. On 4 January 1968, the new owners transformed Gino Umani Ronchi’s small company into a Winery, maintaining the original name; a year later the legal and administrative headquarters moved to the new winery in Osimo, the Rosso Conero is produced here. In the same time frame, the Castelbellino cellar, used to produce the Verdicchio wine, gets updated.

Massimo Bernetti is Umani Ronchi owner and manager; he is a visionary who wanted to bring his wines to international markets and, at the same time, wanted to expand and improve the company’s wine list. Thanks to Massimo, the winery today boasts over 200 hectares of vineyards between Abruzzo and Marche producing high-quality wines.

At the beginning of the 90s, Massimo’s son Michele joined the company. He had just graduated and had international experience behind him. Michele began important collaborations such as the one with Giacomo Tachis, famous for creating Solaia and Sassicaia.

For 20 years Umani Ronchi has been part of the Institute of Quality Wine. It is made up of 18 great families of Italian wine, including Antinori, Sassicaia, Masi, Jermann, Ca’ del Bosco and Donnafugata, recognized at national and international levels that share objective values and also strategies to keep the name of Italy high in the world.

The winery

As anticipated, the winery extends between Abruzzo and Marche.

Marche

The winery produces white and red wines in the region Marche; the native white wine par excellence is Verdicchio and the Umani Ronchi winery is located right in the heart of Verdicchio, on the left bank of the Esino River with 21 hectares. This is an area of fine and quality wines. Some examples? From the Le Busche vineyard comes the modern Verdicchio Casal di Serra; from the four hectares of old vines comes the wine of the same name and then from the Cupramontana village comes the Verdicchio Riserva Plenio.

The red grape vineyards extend on the hills around Mount Conero, representing the northernmost area; the Montepulciano gives wines of extreme elegance. Umani Ronchi owns 35 hectares of vineyards and the historical property where everything started. Here are produced wines such as Cúmaro, San Lorenzo and Pelag

Abruzzo

In Abruzzo Umani Ronchi owns the Tenuta Centovie; about 35 hectares, cultivated with organic farming, near Roseto degli Abruzzi. The most cultivated grape variety is Montepulciano.
