The Floral gin of Song Cai Distillery
The Viet Nam Floral Gin from the Song Cai distillery is produced from five flowers: dragon claw, ylang-ylang, jasmine, magnolia and pomelo, each distilled separately; This gin, like all the gins from the distillery, is produced in small batches with a direct-fire copper still that is fed by hand; the base of the gin is rice alcohol and molasses.
In Viêt Nam, flowers have great symbolism and are used in cooking, in traditional rituals and also to perfume homes; this gin captures the lively and fresh flavours of the first flowering of the season; it is a truly unique floral gin.
Tasting
Viet Nam Floreal gin is one of a kind the scent of young pine meets notes of black cherry and closes with hints of jackfruit, a rare fruit from Southeast Asia that is not yet very well known in Europe; it is very aromatic and fragrant. On the palate, you appreciate the spices that immediately leave room for green pepper and bee pollen. The finish is pleasant, with hints of sweet spices intertwining with the citrus notes and the floral scents.
The Song Cal distillery produces Viet Nam Floral Gin and other quality gins.
We are in Vietnam; the master distiller Daniel Nguyen founded the Song Cai Distillery in 2018; he studied the biodiversity and botanicals of rural Viêt Nam for six years before starting his company.
In Vietnamese Sông Cái means Mother River. The distillery chose this name because, in Vietnamese tradition, all forces of nature, life and spirituality come from a holistic “mother river”.
Daniel distilled the first gin produced in Vietnam with local Botanics; he partnered with local indigenous people who lent themselves to selecting and harvesting the best botanicals. Now, over 70 families work for the Sông Cái distillery; the distillery offers rural communities an incentive to preserve local crops and botanicals.
