The History

Vigneti Pittaro  winery was founded in the 1970s by Piero Pittaro, a prominent figure in the international winemaking industry and a descendant of a family with four centuries of winemaking history. Located in the heart of the DOC Grave del Friuli, the area was barren and lacked vineyards, irrigation, and infrastructure. Piero envisioned this as the perfect spot for a winery immersed in the natural landscape. He started from scratch, planting the first vine shoots and utilizing the natural springs in the area to provide water.

Piero Pittaro was truly a pioneer in winemaking as we know it today. Through hard work, determination, and vision, Piero turned his dream into reality.

Today, the company owns nearly 90 hectares of vineyards, with 85 situated in the Friuli plain and the remainder on the picturesque hills of Ramandolo. The company headquarters is in Codroipo, at the heart of Grave del Friuli.

The Winery

Inaugurated in 1985, the cellar spans 300 square meters and is designed harmoniously within the vineyard environment; it consists of two levels: one dedicated to production processes and an underground area intended for wine ageing. Recently, the winery added a new cellar for sparkling wine. These underground rooms, naturally air-conditioned, are ideal for ageing Classic Method sparkling wines.
Sparkling wines are a flagship product for Pittaro, managed by winemaker Stefano Trinco, a prominent figure and president of the DOC Collio.

The native Ronco Vieri line of wines is produced at the Tarcento cellar in the DOC Friuli Colli Orientali area.

Visitors to the Codroipo headquarters can also explore an interesting wine museum featuring notable collections, including a walking stick collection and a glass collection.

In recent years, Vigneti Pittaro has prioritized eco-sustainability in vineyard management and operational activities. The number of anti-parasitic treatments has been significantly reduced, and sustainable practices include the use of recovery sprayers, lightweight bottles for the still wine line, Vino-Lok® glass stoppers, and a modern photovoltaic system.

The Winery Today

Piero Pittaro was deeply committed to his employees, the team that supported him in realizing his dream; he often shared his private life with them; upon his passing in March 2024, Piero chose to leave the company to his dedicated team.
