The wine from Tenuta San Guido
Sassicaia 2015 by Tenuta San Guido was recognized as the best wine in the world by Wine Spectator, a publication often regarded as the definitive authority in the wine industry. This remarkable wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and 15% Cabernet Franc grapes, grown in the vineyards owned by the winery, situated at elevations between 100 and 300 meters above sea level. The soil in this region is composed of both calcareous elements, rich in rocks, stones and clay.
The name “Sassicaia” pays homage to the terroir where the vineyards grow.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest and winemaking is separate by grape variety. The must undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures ranging from 28 to 30 degrees Celsius. The ageing process occurs in French oak barriques, with one-third of the barrels being new and two-thirds previously used for one to two vintages. The wine rests in these barriques for a minimum of 24 months. After blending and bottling, Sassicaia 2015 ages for several additional months in the cellar before being released to the market.
