The Sicily pavilion at Vinitaly 2018

The Sicily pavilion (number 2) is one of the largest at Vinitaly and has a very large number of producers. The quality of the wines presented is remarkable so it must be absolutely visited! In fact, Sicily will participate with an exhibition space of over 3,000 square meters that will host 144 wineries. The participation of the Sicilian wineries in Vinitaly will be coordinated directly by the associations of wine producers and by the protection consortia, who have agreed their presence directly with the Verona Fair Authority.

The “Sol” space

In addition to the dedicated pavilion 2 dedicated to the cellars, within the Fair there will also be a “Sol” space within which you can find the Sicilian oil companies.

Infopoint and tourism

The participation of Sicily in Vinitaly this year is enriched thanks to the presence of the departments of Tourism, Sports and Entertainment and Cultural Heritage with the Superintendency of the Sea. In fact, there will be an infopoint that will be entirely dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of initiatives and territories of tourist attraction. In fact, an exhibition of amphorae from various periods will be created. From those dating back to the period before Christ, up to those of a few centuries ago. The aim is to witness how ancient the vocation of wine production is, and its geographical centrality. The amphorae since antiquity were in fact the main container for the transport of the product. The exhibition includes a reconstruction of a part of the wooden hull of an ancient boat where some of the amphorae found in the Sicilian backdrops will be placed, as well as some of the most famous types used to transport wine.

Events and awards

In Verona the Sicilian start-ups that have distinguished themselves and the ambassadors of Sicilian wine and olive oil in the world will be awarded. It will also be awarded, the Marshalese winemaker Antonio Barraco, who has been identified identified as “Meritorious of Italian vitiviniculture” by the Councilor for Agriculture Edy Bandiera.
