Borgo San Daniele is a winery made up of people, two in particular, the Alessandra and Mauro Mauri (brother and sister). As children, Alessandra and Mauro spent a lot of time with their grandparents. The grandparents were farmers and winemakers and owned a small company where everyone did a bit of everything. The time spent with the grandparents allowed Alessandra and Mauro to fall in love with farming and winemaking to the point that Alessandra undertook her studies as an agricultural expert and Mauro in oenology and viticulture.
Borgo San Daniele was born in 1990 and Alessandra and Mauro decided to concentrate their work and made few wines. Borgo San Daniele does not follow the rules and needs of the market, but the times and needs of the land. This is why the winery follows the principles of biodynamics and grows native vines following the rhythms and balance of the earth, exploiting the orientation and altitude of its land.
The winery owns 14 vineyards. They seem a lot but they are small plots, “parcels” located in different areas; this situation has allowed Borgo San Daniele to make specific choices; plant and safeguard different varieties depending on the soil.
We asked Mauro to tell us a Friulian saying that he often uses and he replied with “Borgo San Daniele thanks and does not forget”. Thanking and not forgetting is a perfect way to explain this land … Friuli. Enthusiasts who never give up and are proud of their work.
