Il Poggiarello

Il Poggiarello winery is located in Val Trebbia among the Piacenza woods. This company is part of the Cantine 4 Valli group founded by the Ferrari and Perini families; they have been writing the history of wine in Piacenza since 1882. The winery has grown over the years but is still family-run today. We have now reached the fifth generation.

Il Poggiarello was born in the 80s when the fourth generation arrived in the company, the cousins; they decided to buy 20 hectares in Val Trebbia, an area that for Piacenza has value both oenologically and culturally; the cousins had the desire to become ambassadors of the territory thanks to excellent wines. An ambitious project that the winery is successfully carrying forward.

The winery

The traditions of past generations are still followed and, the grapes are all certified organic. The winery philosophy has four simple words: territory, uniqueness, simplicity and ambition.

Wine is made in the vineyard the outcome is the expression of the territory. The certified organic vineyards, the attention in the cellar and the thousand-year history of Piacenza wine are the ingredients for extraordinary wines. Every wine produced by the Il Poggiarello winery is a little gem because they carefully selected the best native grapes.

The wines are straightforward and never banal. The winery defines them as companion wines, perfect for large tables of friends and family. They are wines that manage to surprise and raise a smile.

Il Poggiarello winery is ambitious and wants to tell about Piacenza outside Piacenza thanks to a glass of wine. We think they have succeeded because by tasting their wines you will fall in love with them.

The wines

Let’s start with “I Volti ” (the faces)each wine tells a story and has a different face on the label that expresses the state of mind of the wine itself. Sauvignon, Malvasia, Pinot Nero, Gutturnio Superiore and Gutturnio Riserva, are all worth trying.

If you like sparkling wines, there are “Gli Spaghi” (the strings), Gutturnio and Ortrugo. The sparkling wine per Piacenza tradition, has the typical hand-tied string on the cork.

Then there are Cecco and Mami, the wines that the winery defines as born and raised in Piacenza: a white wine and a red wine that fully represent the territory of origin.

We continue with the Barbera “il Piston” which is produced only in the magnum format of one and a half litres as per local tradition and we end with L’Alba e la Pietra, a macerated white wine so-called to remember the dawn that illuminates the Pietra Parcellara in Val Trebbia.

Which one should you taste? All of them!
