The Distillery

The Nardini distillery has a history that spans over 200 years. It began in 1739 with the birth of its founder, Bortolo Nardini, who travelled from house to house with his still, distilling the pomace from local wine producers. Bortolo eventually arrived in Bassano del Grappa, where he established the distillery’s headquarters. Some key dates explain the Company’s story and its evolution; Here are some of the most important milestones:

Important Dates

1779. Bortolo was forced to stop in Bassano del Grappa due to an accident. During this time, he realized Bassano’s strategic significance and settled there. He purchased the Al Ponte tavern, now known as Grapperia Nardini, and began producing grappa.
1860. The shift from traditional fire distillation to steam distillation significantly improved the quality of the product. This method of distillation is still widely used today.
1910. Bortolo’s sons joined the Company and introduced the first reserve grappa that ages in oak barrels, similar to cognac.
1963. The distillery introduced vacuum steam distillation. This innovative technique helps preserve the organoleptic characteristics of the raw materials.
2006. Grappa became recognized as a spirit suitable for mixing. The distillery collaborated with top international bartenders and published a book with Marcil Miller featuring 40 recipes for grappa-based cocktails.
2019. The first Single Cask grappa launched to celebrate the 240th anniversary of the Nardini distillery. This special grappa aged for 22 years in a single barrel.

Nardini Today

Today, the seventh generation of the Nardini family manages the distillery, and it remains a family-run business dedicated to upholding the quality and passion that the founder instilled.
