THE WINE
The Aglianico Petravia of the Masseria Altamura winery is produced with 100% Aglianico grapes. It is one of the noblest vines of the South of Italy, which finds in the lands of Masseria Altamura that “living stone” that it needs to express itself in all its power and aromatic complexity.
Thanks to the marvellous light, the fresh perennial breezes from the two seas and land dominated by white limestone rocks and the Salento land, with its characteristic red colour, allow for a unique terroir.
THE WINEMAKING
After manual harvesting, the selected grapes are brought to the cellar for winemaking. The fermentation takes place in steel at a controlled temperature that varies between 18 and 25 degrees. The wine then ages in 350 and 400-litre tonneaux for 15 months, and once bottled, it rests in the cellar for another 12 months.
THE TASTING
Intense ruby red. The aroma is enveloping with fruity aromas of cherry, blackberry, and pear, which alternate with notes of spices such as black pepper and juniper berries. Intense and very well structured on the palate, persistent and fresh with well-present but velvety tannins.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat and game but also with hard cheeses. Try it with duck.
