THE WINE
Amphora Maris, more than a wine, this bottle or rather amphora, is an actual work of art. It took four years of study and practical tests, but also courage and determination on the part of the Podere San Cristoforo winery to make wine in such a different way. Yes, because this 100% Petit Verdot ages in the depths of the Mediterranean Sea in handmade clay amphorae.
THE WINEMAKING
After manual harvesting, the grapes are carefully selected, and only the best ones reach the cellar for winemaking. After destemming, the must ferments in steel tanks with the sole use of indigenous yeasts. The wine then ages in French oak barrels for ten months. After ageing in barrels, the wine is decanted into handcrafted terracotta amphorae, a manual operation done with great precision to avoid oxidation.
In the see
The amphora is manually capped and finished with lacquer wax and an authenticity seal before being placed in the immersion baskets. The amphorae remain at a depth of 30 metres, in the dark and at an average temperature of 10°C for 12 months.
THE TASTING
The result is an intense ruby red wine. The aroma is delightful, with delicate hints of ripe fruit and salty notes. Full-bodied and soft on the palate, perfect correspondence between aromas and flavours and excellent persistence.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with hard cheeses, red meats and game.
