THE WINE
The Barbaresco Rabajà from the Giuseppe Cortese winery comes from 100% Nebbiolo grapes that grow in the proprietary vineyards in Rabajà, where the wine takes its name. This Barbaresco is Giuseppe Cortese’s flagship and one of the most famous wines among the Barbaresco Crus. We are in the heart of the Langhe in Piedmont, a magical place.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual, and only the selected grapes are taken to the cellar for winemaking. The bunches are destemmed and softly pressed. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks. The wine then ages for a period ranging from twenty to twenty-two months in Slovenian oak barrels of various sizes. After blending and bottling, the wine rests for another ten months in the cellar before being released onto the market.
THE TASTING
Garnet ruby red. The aroma is exquisite, with pleasant vegetal notes that immediately give way to fruity notes such as wild strawberry, which in turn leaves room for sensations of mint to close with hints of spice and leather. Powerful, intense and very well structured on the palate. This Barbaresco from the Giuseppe Cortese winery has very present tannins but is exceptionally well-mouthed and never intrusive. Almost perfect correspondence between aromas and flavours with a very long and persistent finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Perfect with red meats, game and mature cheeses but, given its great qualities, this wine is excellent for meditation.
