THE WINE
The Barolo Arione from the Giacomo Conterno winery is produced with 100% Nebbiolo grapes that grow in the Arione vineyard from which it takes its name. The vineyard is located in Serralunga d’Alba in the Langhe, one of the most important areas for cultivating grapes in Piedmont, and is also considered a World Heritage Site by Unesco.
THE WINEMAKING
After the manual harvest, the grapes are carefully selected and only the best are taken to the cella for wine-making, which begins with a soft pressing. The must macerates on the skins for a period that varies according to the vintage. Conversely, fermentation occurs in large non-toasted Austrian wood vats; the wine then ages in French oak barrels of various sizes for at least forty-eight months. After blending and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Ruby red with garnet hues. The aroma is elegant and refined with pleasant floral notes where violet prevails, which alternate with hints of aromatic herbs, which leave room for red fruits to close with spicy hints and puffs of leather. Decisive and powerful on the palate, Arione Barolo is very well structured, with very present but extremely well-polished tannins and a correspondence between aromas and flavours that is almost perfect; very long and pleasantly fresh finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat, game but also with hard cheeses. Excellent with grilled meat.
Wine is purchased directly from the producer and stored in cold rooms.
