THE WINE
The Cabernet Franc of the Sturm winery comes from 100% Cabernet Franc grapes grown in the vineyards owned by the winery. As the name suggests, this Cabernet Franc is an essential wine for the winery, a frank and sincere wine.
We are in the municipality of Cormons in the province of Gorizia, on a plateau with mainly gravelly and calcareous soil, which the locals call ponca. Thanks to the microclimate, this is one of Italy’s most suitable areas for cultivating vines.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is rigorously manual and takes place in October when the grapes are fully ripe. Once in the cellar, the selected grapes are destemmed and left to macerate at a controlled temperature for an extended period with frequent punching down and pumping over. After racking, the wine ages in oak barrels for several months, and the ageing duration varies yearly. The wine is then bottled and left to rest briefly in the cellar before being placed on the market..
THE TASTING
Ruby red with violet reflections. The aroma is fresh with pleasant notes of red fruit that intertwine with herbaceous hints to close with peppery sensations. Rich and aromatic on the palate, with a perfect match between aromas and flavours. The tannins are sweet and well-integrated. The persistence is also excellent.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat and medium-hard cheeses. Try it with typical Friulian dishes such as potato frico.
