The Chardonnay from the Tunella Winery
Chardonnay Tunella is a white wine produced in the hills of Eastern Friuli, from grapes grown on marl and sandstone soils, known as “ponca.” The careful cultivation, with monocapovolto and French guyot systems, and the manual harvest in the first week of September, contribute to the creation of a high-quality wine. The careful refinement and slow fermentation at controlled temperatures give Chardonnay Tunella a complex structure and a delicate aromatic bouquet.
The Tunella winery grows all its grapes according to the canons of integrated anti-parasitic control with low environmental impact.
The Winemaking
The winemaking of Chardonnay Tunella begins with the manual harvesting of grapes at the perfect ripeness. This is followed by gentle pressing and static cold settling of the must. A fermentation starter, prepared a few days earlier, is added to the must, initiating a slow fermentation at a controlled temperature (16°C) for 30-40 days. Maturation continues with a series of batonnage at a scaling frequency, a process that enhances the complexity, structure, and delicate aromatic profile of the wine. Bottling takes place in March, after careful maturation.
Tasting the wine of the winery
Chardonnay Tunella presents an intense straw yellow color, which tends to darken with aging. On the nose, it offers a fragrant and fruity aroma, with notes of ripe tropical fruits, pineapple, and white flowers. On the palate, it is noble and elegant, slender, with a lively freshness that makes it balanced and pleasant. The total acidity of 5.7 gr/L and the alcohol content of 13.00% vol. contribute to the wine’s harmony.
Food Pairings
Chardonnay Tunella is a versatile wine, ideal as an aperitif. It pairs excellently with lean appetizers, dry and broth soups, egg-based dishes, and fish. Its freshness and fruity notes make it a perfect companion for light and delicate dishes. The recommended serving temperature is 8-10°C to fully appreciate its organoleptic characteristics.
