IL VINO
The Frappato Dumè from the Tenuta Gorghi Tondi winery is made from 100% Frappato grapes grown in vineyards owned by the winery. We are near Mazara del Vallo in the westernmost part of Sicily, a stone’s throw from the sea and the sea breezes. The estate is located within a nature reserve protected by the WWF.
The winery is a family-run winery run by women, and since 2016 all vineyards have been certified organic, which means that all the wines are organic and carry the famous green leaf on the label. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, there is the utmost respect for nature and its balance.
This Frappato is part of the “Le Maioliche” line, it includes native Sicilian wines that carry the oldest Sicilian ceramics on the label. The name Dumè comes from the Sicilian dialect and can be translated as “in our way” or a fresh and intense wine perfect for dinners with friends. Excellent also slightly chilled.
THE WINEMAKING
After the harvest, only the selected grapes go to the cellar for winemaking, starting with a maceration of about 10 days The must ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The refinement also takes place in steel tanks and lasts about seven months. After assembly and bottling, the wine rests for a few more months in the cellar before being released onto the market.
THE TASTING
Light ruby red with light garnet reflections; the aroma is intense with pleasant hints of blood oranges that intertwine with notes of raspberry to close with hints of pomegranate. Fresh and intense on the palate, juicy with light tannin and a long and pleasantly persistent finish.
