THE WINE
The Merlot of the Russiz Superiore winery, although not an autochthonous grape, has been part of the Friuli winemaking tradition for a long time and is appreciated all over the world. It is produced with 100% Merlot grapes grown in Capriva del Friuli, on the hills of the DOC Collio at an altitude above sea level that varies between 80 and 200 meters where the soil is rich in marl and sandstone.
THE WINEMAKING
After manual harvesting, once in the cellar, the selected grapes are separated from the stalks and left to macerate in large steel vats for a variable period depending on the vintage. During this phase, delicate fulling operations allow to extract the noble precursor components of the taste and aroma of the wine. The wine obtained is then left to age for about 12 months in small oak barrels. After assembly and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for a further 6 months.
THE TASTING
Intense ruby red with garnet hues. The aroma is elegant and fresh with notes of berries that are well intertwined with light vanilla hints. Balanced and enveloping on the palate; a fresh and well structured wine with a perfect harmony between perfumes and taste.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Excellent with meat, game and medium and hard cheeses. Must try with beef stew.
