The Wine
The Era from the Romaldo Greco winery is 100% Primitivo grapes grown in the vineyards owned by the winery. We are in Seclì in the province of Lecce, a flat area (76 meters above sea level) where the soil is generally clayey.
The name Era is Greek; She was the wife of Zeus and queen of Olympus. The Romaldo Greco winery decided to call this wine Era to pay homage to Primitivo, which has always been the queen of Apulian grapes.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest, which takes place in the beginning of September, is strictly manual; the selected grapes are collected in small boxes and taken immediately to the cellar for winemaking. After soft pressing, the must macerates on the skins for about 15 days. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in steel tanks. The wine then ages for approximately 9 months in oak barriques. After blending and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for a few more months before being released on the market.
THE TASTING
Intense ruby red; the aroma is pleasantly intense with fruity notes of plum and cherry, which leave room for spicy tones to close with light puffs of vanilla. Soft and well-balanced on the palate, this wine from the Romaldo Greco winery has rich but well-smoothed tannins and an excellent correspondence between aromas and flavour. Persistence is also remarkable.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Excellent with red meats, game and hard cheeses. Try it with grilled meat and orecchiette alle cime di rapa (with turnip tops).
