THE WINE
The Friulano from the Sturm winery comes from 100% Friulano grapes grown in the municipality of Cormons in the province of Gorizia on a plateau with mainly gravelly and calcareous soil. The Friulano vineyards of the Sturm winery have an average age of fifty years. For Friulians, this is the father of the region’s wines, and the cellar defines it as stubborn and reliable.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual and takes in the month of September. Once in the cellar, the selected grapes are destemmed and cold macerated. The must then ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 16-18°C; the wine then ages, in steel tanks, on the lees, for a period that varies from year to year. After bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for a few months before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Straw yellow with golden reflections. The aroma is pleasant with fruity notes where pear prevails, which alternate with hints of acacia flowers to close with puffs of almond, typical of this vine. Well-structured and harmonic on the palate, with a perfect correspondence between the aromas and the taste and a long and persistent finish with a pleasant bitter aftertaste of almonds.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Excellent as an aperitif, especially in Friuli, it goes well with fish, white meat, medium hard cheeses and all typical Friulian dishes. Try it with San Daniele raw ham but also with Frico.
