The Wine
The Gewurztraminer of the Franz Haas winery is produced with 100% Gewurztraminer grapes grown in vineyards owned by the winery. We are in South Tyrol and, more precisely, in the province of Bolzano. The vines grow on clayey soils with a high percentage of pebbles and are all located at an altitude between 350 and 650 meters above sea level.
The Haas family has been running this winery for seven generations, and over the years, it has become one of the flags of South Tyrol.
THE WINEMAKING
After manual harvesting, the selected grapes are taken to the cellar for winemaking. After a short period of maceration in contact with the skins, the grape must ferments at a low temperature in steel tanks. The wine ages on the lees, in steel tanks, for about six months and after bottling, it rests for a few months in the cellar before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Intense golden yellow; the aroma is intense with pleasant fruity notes of lychee that intertwine with hints of orange peel, leaving room for spicy hints of cloves and nutmeg to close with puffs of rose. The wine must rest for a few minutes in the glass to express itself at its best. Fresh on the palate with a perfect structure and a slightly bitter and persistent final note.
It is essential to know that Gewürztraminer reaches its complete evolution only after several months of ageing in the bottle.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with white meats but also with shellfish. Try it with spicy Asian dishes.
