THE WINE
The Malvasia Istriana from the Picech winery is produced with 100% Malvasia grapes grown on the Pradis hills between Cormons and Gorizia, not far from the Slovenian border. It is a wine that expresses the soul of the past; 6000 bottles are produced per year.
The wording “Le Vigne del Ribel” on all the labels recalls Roberto’s father, the winery’s current owner. This man did not compromise and made his wines known and appreciated by the majority. A figure well depicted by the hedgehog, which has become the winery’s symbol.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest accuses in mid September; it is manual and only the selected grapes are brought to the cellar for winemaking. After a quick maceration which lasts about 6 hours, the grapes are softly pressed. The must is then decanted statically at a controlled temperature of about 14 ° C. The wine ages in steel on the lees for 8 months. Assembly and bottling follows,
THE TASTING
Straw yellow, the aroma is intense and complex, with pleasant notes of wildflowers that alternate with hints of yellow fruit to close with sensations of spices and black pepper. Fresh and mineral on the palate with a perfect match between aroma and flavour. The persistence of this Istrian Malvasia from the Picech winery is also excellent.
