Kyro Distillery’s Classic Gin
Kyro Gin is the distillery’s first gin, and it was awarded the World’s Best Gin & Tonic by the IWSC in 2015. This gin is 100% rye and local wild botanicals, including birch leaves and meadowsweet. Kyrö Gin represents a cool Finnish summer evening, standing barefoot on a misty meadow after a sauna.
The Tasting
The colour is clear and transparent; the aroma is fresh, with hints of birch intertwining with delicate citrus notes. Herbaceous and sweet on the palate, the pepper and rye notes are perceived on the tongue.
How to taste Kyrö Gin? Put this marvel in a nice glass, add tonic water, and lots of ice; we recommend garnishing with cranberries and a sprig of rosemary and cheers!
The history of the Kyro distillery
As often happens in Finland, great ideas are born in a sauna. It was in a sauna that five friends, Mikko, Jouni, Miika, Miko and Kalle, sipping a glass of whisky, thought it was time to found their distillery; it was 2014. The first thing they did was find a location, an old dairy full of cars; yes, cars because the dairy owners rented the place to a mechanic who fixed cars. Their business began, and they distilled whisky, which required time to refine. The five guys wanted to get out on the market quickly so they switched to distilling gin.
Their first batch of gin was awarded the best gin for the gin & tonic of 2015 and sold out in two days; since then, the road for the Kyrò distillery has been downhill.
The base of all Kyrö Gins is distillate rye with 16 dry botanicals and four freshly distilled botanicals. The botanicals are mostly native, cultivated or wild, such as meadowsweet, sea buckthorn, wild cranberry or birch leaves.
