Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso Wine from the Forchir Winery
The Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso wine by Forchir winery comes from 100% Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso grapes grown in the vineyards of the Forchir winery, located in the DOC Friuli area, which is well-suited for Friulian wine production.
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, along with Schioppettino, is one of the finest native wines from Friuli. Its name derives from the distinctive red colour of its stalk. This grape variety has been present in Friuli since Roman times, as evidenced by archaeological finds scattered throughout the region.
THE WINEMAKING
The Forchir winery conducts the grape harvest at night, allowing the grapes to arrive at the cellar during the coolest hours of the day. This practice ensures that the grapes can be processed at low temperatures, which is crucial for preserving their aromatic profile.
The harvest occurs in September, marking the end of summer. Selected grapes go to the cellar for winemaking, which begins with a maceration period on the skins lasting at least ten days, although the duration may vary based on the vintage. The must then ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.
The wine ages in steel tanks for a duration that varies depending on the vintage. Once the wine is ready, it is blended, bottled, and left to rest in the cellar for a few additional months before being released to the market.
Tasting the wine by Forchir
The wine is an intense ruby red colour, with pleasant fruity aromas dominated by notes of blackberry, morello cherry, and currant, complemented by the typical herbaceous notes of this grape variety. It is warm and full-bodied on the palate, featuring soft, well-integrated tannins and a long, persistent finish with a pleasant hint of bitterness. The connection between the aromas and flavours is excellent.
