The wine Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from Emidio Pepe
The Montepulciano d’Abruzzo from the Emidio Pepe winery is a wine that fully represents the quality of the Abruzzo products. It is produced with Montepulciano grapes grown in a biodynamic way. Even in the most critical years herbicides and chemical fertilizers are not welcome in the vineyard where only copper crystals and sulfur from the mine are used.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual and, once in the cellar, the grapes are de-stemmed by hand. Fermentation uses only indigenous yeasts and it takes place in old wooden vats. The aging, which lasts about 24 months is curried out in traditional vitrified cement tanks. Follows bottling without filtration. The wine then rests a few more months in the cellar before being placed on the market.
Tasting the wine from Emidio Pepe winery
Intense ruby red. The aroma is elegant with notes of red fruit that intertwine with pleasant spicy hints. Soft and round on the palate with important but very velvety tannins. Persistent with a perfect synchrony between the aromas and the taste. It is an excellent wine if drunk young but it can surprise you with aging.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Perfect with red meat and hard cheeses. Must try with beef filet.
N.B: all Emilio Pepe bottles are numbered.
