THE WINE
Jorio, the Montepulciano d’Abruzzo of the Umani Ronchi winery was born in the mid-90s from the need to express and make known to the world the great potential of this vineyard. The name of the wine is a tribute to the great Italian poet from Abruzzo of the 1900s, Gabriele D’Annunzio, and particularly to the pastoral tragedy “The daughter of Jorio”. THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual and takes place between the end of September and the first ten days of October; Once in the cellar, the grapes, de-stemmed and lightly pressed, macerate for 10-12 days in steel at a controlled temperature that varies between 26 and 28 ° C. After fermentation, 50% of the wine ages in 50/80 hl oak barrels, while the remaining 50% ages in third-fourth passage barriques. This rest period lasts about 12 months. After assembly and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for a few months before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Intense ruby red. The aroma is broad and elegant, with pleasant notes of red fruits such as plum and cherry that leave behind balsamic hints to close with scents of liquorice. Intense and full-bodied on the palate; the tannins are present but well balanced. The finish is long and persistent.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat, chicken, rabbit, and aged cheeses. Try it with a mixed grill.
