Song Cai Distillery Gin
Song Cai Distillery Vietnam Dry Gin is produced in Hanoi in small batches using a direct-fire copper still manually fed; the base of the gin is rice alcohol and molasses, while the botanicals coming from the jungles of the Northern Highlands are all hand-picked; among the most important Botanics, we have Måc Mét berries, Måc Khén jungle chillies, black peppercorns and pomelo peel.
We are in a sacred place with jungles full of botanicals that grow nowhere else, cascading rice terraces and limestone peaks; this area is home to several indigenous communities, including the Red Dzao and Hmong.
To create this gin, the distillery spent time in the territory, actively participating in daily life in remote villages and learning about the terroir, botany, and local culture.
Tasting
Viet Nam Dry Gin is one of a kind, about the aromas, the sweet citrus peel gives way to notes of fresh pine and lychee to close with spicy hints. On the palate, you appreciate the citrus and spicy spices that immediately give way to honey, the taste of lychee and juniper berries. The finish reveals notes of black pepper and sweet yellow liquorice.
This gin is perfect for your gin & tonic.
The Song Cal distillery produces Viet Nam Dry Gin and other quality gins.
We are in Vietnam; the master distiller Daniel Nguyen founded the Song Cai Distillery in 2018; he studied the biodiversity and botanicals of rural Viêt Nam for six years before starting his company.
In Vietnamese Sông Cái means Mother River. The distillery chose this name because, in Vietnamese tradition, all forces of nature, life and spirituality come from a holistic “mother river”.
Daniel distilled the first gin produced in Vietnam with local Botanics; he partnered with local indigenous people who lent themselves to selecting and harvesting the best botanicals. Now, over 70 families work for the Sông Cái distillery; the distillery offers rural communities an incentive to preserve local crops and botanicals.
