THE WINE
The Pinot Grigio Ramato from the Vigne del Malina winery is produced with 100% Pinot Grigio grapes grown in the vineyards owned by the winery. The 150-hectare estate is located in Orazano in the municipality of Remanzacco in Friuli Venezia Giulia. An alluvial terrain where the two Malina and Ellero streams have drawn a chalice, almost as if to highlight that this is a nearly perfect area for growing vines.
This wine is part of the cellar’s macerated line. It’s a real flagship. It is produced only in particularly favourable years. The grapes are subjected to maceration on the skins, a practice that in the cellar is generally reserved for red wines.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest of the grapes is strictly manual, in boxes, and takes place only when the grapes have reached the desired level of ripeness. Once in the cellar, the grapes are delicately destemmed, softly pressed and left to macerate on the skins for about ten days; the winemaking takes place in steel tanks, and then it is moved in wood, French and Istrian oak barrels and tonneaux, where it rests for at least twenty-four months, sometimes even longer. The winery’s philosophy is that the wine is bottled when it is ready, and once in the bottle, it rests for another sixty months before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Strong copper, the aroma is exquisite, with pleasant notes of ripe fruit that alternate with balsamic hints. It is rich and sumptuous on the palate, with a fresh acid vein and well-integrated tannins. The correspondence between aromas and flavour is excellent. The finish is long and very persistent.
