The Friulano from the Tunella Winery
The Friulano from the Tunella winery represents one of the wine-making excellences of Friuli Venezia Giulia, a region known for its tradition and quality in white wine production. This wine comes from the hills of Eastern Friuli, where the marl and sandstone soils, known locally as “ponca,” give the wine unique characteristics. The Tunella winery, with its dedication and attention to quality, serves as a benchmark for lovers of indigenous wines.
The Tunella winery grows all its grapes according to the canons of integrated anti-parasitic control with low environmental impact.
The Winemaking
The winemaking of this Friulano begins with the manual harvesting of the grapes, which takes place in the second week of September. The grapes, picked at the right degree of ripeness, are gently pressed whole to extract the must. This is then cold decanted and combined with a fermentation starter that has been prepared a few days prior. Fermentation occurs slowly at a controlled temperature of 16°C for about 30-40 days. Subsequently, the wine matures with a series of batonnage to enrich its complexity and structure. Bottling takes place in March, in time for spring marketing.
Tasting the wine of the winery
This Friulano presents a bright straw-yellow color with greenish reflections. The aroma is finely harmonious, dominated by floral and fruity notes, with hints of bitter almond, pear, wildflowers, and acacia. On the palate, the wine reveals a soft and velvety texture, with moderate acidity that contributes to its dryness and structure. The finish is persistent, with the unmistakable hint of bitter almond that enhances the typical character of the grape variety.
Food Pairings
The Friulano from the Tunella winery is a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with a variety of dishes. It complements light appetizers, cold cuts, broths, dry pasta, and dishes based on fish and white meats. A particularly recommended pairing is with San Daniele ham, which enhances its aromatic notes and velvety structure. Thanks to its versatility and distinctive flavor profile, Friulano is an excellent choice for those wishing to explore the richness of Friulian wine tradition.
