The Wine
The Pinot Nero Reiner of the Kettmeir winery is produced with100% Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Maso Reiner vineyard from which the wine takes its name, located in Pochi di Salorno. We are inside the Monte Corno Natural Park, on the Alto Adige Wine Route, one of the most renowned areas of Alto Adige for the production of wines of the highest quality. We are about 400 meters above sea level, and here, the soil is of limestone origin with a good percentage of the clayey component.
THE WINEMAKING
The manual harvest takes place between the middle and the end of September. Once in the canton, the wine-making is traditional in red with maceration of the skins. During the fermentation, the temperature gradually increases up to 25-27 ° C. At the beginning of the process, the low temperatures allow the extraction of the colouring substances typical of Pinot Noir. At the end of the fermentation, the wine ages 15-18 months in 30 hl wooden barrels and oak barriques.
THE TASTING
Ruby-red. The aroma is delicate, with hints of forest fruits that alternate with notes of cherry, to close with nuances of vanilla and tobacco. Dry and soft on the palate, the tannins are present but silky and well-integrated. This wine is very persistent with a slightly spicy finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Perfect with red meat and game but also with medium-hard cheeses. A must try with South Tyrolean smoked cold cuts.
