THE WINE
The Pinot Nero from the Terlano winery comes from 100% Pinot Nero grapes, which are grown in the vineyards owned by the winemakers who are members of the Tarlano cooperative winery. We are in Terlano in the province of Bolzano in Trentino Alto Adige; in 1893, the town’s winemakers decided to work together and founded the cooperative winery; it was a far-sighted vision, in fact, today, all wine lovers know Tarlano for the quality of its wines.
Pinot Noir of Terlano is grown at medium and high altitudes; here, the vineyards are well-ventilated and allow exquisite wine production with pleasant hints of berries.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is also strictly manual because all the vineyards are on the hills, at an altitude between 450 and 650 meters above sea level. Once in the cellar, the grapes are manually selected and destemmed. Temperature-controlled fermentation takes place in steel tanks; the wine ages in big oak barrels 7-10 months, and after blending and bottling, it rests for a few more months in the cellar before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Intense ruby red. The aroma is pleasantly fresh with fruity notes of blueberry and blackberry that alternate with hints of cherry in alcohol and liquorice with light puffs of undergrowth. Very well-balanced on the palate; the tannins are present but well-integrated and silky. This Pinot Noir is an elegant wine with a long and persistent finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Excellent with red meat, mature cheeses and cold cuts; if served slightly colder, it is also excellent with fish.
