St. Magdalener Schallerhof from Castelfeder winery
The St. Magdalener Schallerhof from Castelfeder Winery is a blend of 90% Schiava and 10% Lagrein grapes. The vineyards where these grapes are grown are intentionally planted in the specified proportions to allow for mixed winemaking from the very beginning.
The name “Schallerhof” comes from the farm where the vineyards are situated; a distinctive feature of the vineyard is a Tibetan-style tower, which adds uniqueness to the vineyard and the grapes.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is manual; once in the cellar, the grapes are destemmed and left to macerate for ten to fourteen days in steel tanks before winemaking. The wine ages in steel for at least six months. After blending and bottling, it rests for several months in the cellar before being released to the market.
Tasting the wine rom Castelfeder
The wine has a ruby-red colour. The aroma offers pleasant floral aromas, with violets being particularly prominent; on the palate, it is aromatic and dry, characterized by a long finish and a delightful almond aftertaste.
