The Pinot Noir from the Tunella Winery
The Pinot Noir from Cantina Tunella embodies the elegance and winemaking tradition of the hills of Eastern Friuli. This region, famous for its “ponca,” a soil made up of marls and sandstones of Eocene origin, provides ideal conditions for cultivating high-quality grapes. With a training system that includes the single inverted and French guyot methods, and a planting density between 4,500 and 5,000 plants per hectare, the production is aimed at ensuring the maximum expression of the terroir.
The Tunella winery grows all its grapes according to the canons of integrated anti-parasitic control with low environmental impact.
The Winemaking
The harvest of the Pinot Noir takes place in the first week of September, when the grapes reach the optimal degree of sugar and phenolic ripeness. Manual picking ensures that the bunches are handled with utmost care. The grapes are destemmed and crushed, and the resulting must is left to macerate and ferment with the skins. During this phase, frequent pump-overs facilitate the transfer of color and noble tannins to the fermenting must. After the pressing, the completion of alcoholic and malolactic fermentation is awaited, followed by appropriate racking. The wine continues its maturation in the underground cellar until bottling, which occurs a year and a half after the harvest.
Tasting the wine of the winery
The Pinot Noir from Cantina Tunella presents itself with a ruby red color. The aroma is pronounced and characteristic, with delicate notes of raspberry and berries. On the palate, the wine is dry and slightly aromatic, with a pleasant bitter note that enhances its velvety complexity. The finish is long and pleasantly persistent.
Food Pairings
This Pinot Noir pairs perfectly with white meats and poultry, enhancing dishes with delicate flavors. It is also ideal with fatty fish, such as eels, especially when prepared with rich sauces. Give it a try with pizza too!
