THE WINE
The Red Krogle of the Kocjancic Rado winery, is produced with 85% Refosco grapes and the remaining 15% merlot, cabernet sauvignon and small black; an autochthonous variety that has always been present in historic vineyards. The grapes are cultivated in the vineyards located around the farm in Dolga Krona, very close to the border with Slovenia.
It is essential to know that all the production phases of all wines of the Kocjancic Rado winery (from the work in the vineyard to the final product in bottle) are natural, no chemicals are used.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual and takes place in the first ten days of October. Once in the cellar, the selected grapes are gently de-stemmed and left to macerate on the skins for about 15 days. After the pressing and the natural settling, the wine ages in large French oak barrels for 2 years. After bottling, the wine rests a few months in the cellar before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Intense ruby red almost black with violet reflections. The aroma is elegant with pleasant hints of berries that mix with notes of cherry jam to leave room for hints of chocolate and spicy puffs due to the passage in wood. Warm and full-bodied on the palate, the tannins are well present but silky; delicate with a perfect correspondence between flavor and aroma. Persistent.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meats, game and hard cheeses. Must try with Jota, a savory local soup.
