THE WINE
The Rîul from the Ermacora winery is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet and Refosco grapes grown in the vineyards owned by the winery. We are in the hills of Ipplis in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli DOC in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Explaining this area of Friuli is difficult, you have to come and visit it to discover a series of terraced hills, protected by the Julian Prealps which enjoy the breezes of the Adriatic Sea. A set of vines alternating with woods rich in biodiversity, in short, a true paradise.
This wine is produced only in the best years and is Ermacora’s interpretation of the famous Bordeaux blend (Merlot and Cabernet) with a Friulian twist (Refosco). Practically, the Rîul a tribute to the French cousins with an eye for the roots of the territory. This wine is the only blend produced by the winery. A deep wine that, we promise, will amaze you.
THE WINEMAKING
The grapes are manually harvested; once in the cellar, the three varieties are wine made separately. After destemming, the grapes macerate in steel tanks for a period ranging between 10 and 12 days. After the fermentation phases, the three wines rest in small French oak barriques for at least 36 months. At the end of the refinement, master winemakers in the cellar choose the barrels with the best evolution to form the cuvée. After blending and bottling, the wine rests for a few more months in the cellar before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Ruby red, the aroma is elegant with pleasant hints of red fruit where black cherry, plum, and blueberries prevail, leaving room for notes of hay and hints of licorice to close with balsamic puffs. Soft and well structured on the palate with velvety tannins and an almost perfect correspondence between aromas and flavors. Very long finish
