The wine Rosso di Montepulciano from Ambrogio e Giovanni Folonari winery
The Rosso di Montepulciano from Ambrogio and Giovanni Folonari winery is made from Sangiovese grapes sourced from the TorCalvano estate, which is situated between Valdichiana and Val d’Orcia in the province of Siena. This region has been ideal for cultivating high-quality Sangiovese grapes for over 300 years.
THE WINEMAKING
After the manual harvest, the selected grapes are promptly taken to the cellar for vinification. This process begins with a maceration on the skin lasting about ten days. Both fermentation and refinement occur in steel tanks. Following approximately twelve months of rest, the wine is blended and bottled and it rests in the cellar for a few more months before being released to the market.
Tasting the wine
Intense ruby red with a complex and aromatic bouquet. It features pleasant aromas of ripe red fruits, with blackberry and cherry being the most prominent, along with subtle hints of black pepper spice. On the palate, it is well balanced, with smoothly integrated tannins and a pleasant acidity that invites further tasting. There is a good correspondence between the nose and the palate, and the finish is persistent.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Rosso di Montepulciano is excellent with red meats and medium-aged cheeses. Try it with the classic Fiorentina steak.
