The Wine
Schioppettino is one of the oldest native vines in the Friuli Venezia Giulia region. The one from the Vigna Lenuzza winery is produced with grapes grown in the Prepotto area. The cellar is certified organic and the owners call themselves “bio in the soul”; The Lenuzza family firmly believes that “The earth does not belong only to us. It must be respected in order to be passed down from generation to generation”
THE WINEMAKING
After the manual harvest, the selected grapes are brought to the cellar for winemaking. After the first fermentation in contact with the skins that lasts about 20 days, the must rests in large French oak barrels for about 2 years. Follows the assembly, bottling and a further refinement period of at least 4 months in the cellar before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Bright red. The aroma is fine with aromas of cherry and berries which alternates with spicy notes of pepper and licorice to close with balsamic puffs.
Velvety and vigorous on the palate the tannins are well present but velvety. The correspondence between aromas and taste is also excellent.
FOOD PAIRINGS
It goes well with red meat, game and hard cheeses.Try it with “fatty” fish like turbot.
