THE WINE
The Sito Moresco of the Gaja winery is a blend of Nebbiolo grapes for 85%, Barbera for 10% and Merlot for 5% grown in Barbaresco, in the province of Cuneo. We are located on the hills in Piedmont at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level. The Gaja winery is a family-run business that over the years has been able to establish itself in the world wine scene.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual and only the selected grapes are brought to the cellar for winemaking. Winemaking that begins with the de-stemming and soft pressing of the grapes. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, with a maceration on the skins that lasts few weeks. The wine then ages for at least 12 months in French oak barrels and after bottling, it rests a few more months in the cellar before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Bright ruby red. The aroma is intense with pleasant hints of ripe red fruit where cherry, black cherry and raspberry stand out. Floral notes of rose follow, to close with pleasant spicy hints of pepper. Soft and well structured on the palate, very fresh; the tannins are present but silky and well integrated. Persistence is also excellent.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Perfect with red meats, game and hard cheeses. Must try with braised meat.
Wine is purchased directly from the producer and stored in cold rooms.
