THE WINE
The Gutturnio Frizzante “Gli spaghi” by the winery Il Poggiarello is a sparkling white wine produced with Barbera grapes for the 60% and Bonarda grapes for the 40%; the cork closed with the traditional Piacenza string, is tied strictly by hand.
We are in Val Trebbia near Piacenza in Emilia Romagna; the winery was founded thanks to two families who have continued their philosophy for five generations; all grapes are certified organic and the wine production follows the dictates of tradition.
THE WINEMAKING
After harvesting, the selected grapes go to the cellar, are pressed and left to macerate at a temperature of 23°C. The must ferments using only selected yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 18°C to maintain the fruity aromas unaltered. Subsequently, the wine is moved to an autoclave for a slow second fermentation. After bottling, and closing the cap with the traditional string, the wine rests for a few months in the cellar before being released onto the market.
THE TASTING
Bright ruby red; the aroma is intriguing with pleasant hints of red fruits that alternate with floral notes of lilac and fresh fruit. Fresh and enveloping on the palate with a good correspondence between the aromas and flavour and a persistent finish that encourages drinking.
FOOD PAIRINGS
The sparkling Gutturnio is excellent with cured meats and pasta dishes with meat sauce. Try it with a hamburger.
