The wine Friulano DOC from Canus winery
The Friulano DOC from Canus Winery is crafted exclusively from 100% Tocai Friulano grapes, a native grape variety that reaches its full potential in the Ronco di Gramogliano area, located in the heart of the Friuli Colli Orientali region. The vines, approximately 25 years old, thrive in soils rich in Eocene marl and sandstone, locally known as “ponca.” This distinct soil imparts a unique minerality to the wine, evident in its flavour profile.
For wine enthusiasts eager to explore a special corner of Friuli Venezia Giulia, the Friulano from Cantina Canis is an excellent choice. With its refreshing taste, elegance, and deep connection to the local territory, this wine beautifully represents the region’s winemaking tradition.
Winemaking
Harvest is manual, ensuring careful selection of each bunch. After a gentle pressing, the must is cooled to 12°C and is let to decant for 36 hours; fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled tanks between 18-20°C, preserving the grapes’ fresh and aromatic characteristics. The wine is aged for approximately 9-12 months in the bottle to achieve a perfect balance between freshness and complexity.
Tasting the wine by Canus
The Friulano from Cantina Canis displays a bright straw yellow colour, enhanced by citrus reflections. On the nose, it offers fresh and balsamic aromas, with hints of aromatic herbs such as thyme, mint, and marjoram. On the palate, the wine is elegant and savoury, featuring a fine structure and minerality that reflect the Friulian terroir, resulting in a lingering sensation of freshness.
Food Pairings
This Friulano is perfect as an aperitif or to accompany light dishes. It pairs excellently with fish, white meats, fresh cheeses, and herb omelettes; its freshness and versatility make it an ideal companion for a spring lunch or a light dinner.
