THE WINE
The Vintage Tunina wine from the Jerman winery is one of the most renowned winery labels. It comes from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Ribolla Gialla, Malvasia Istriana and Picolit grapes grown in the estate’s vineyards. The name Tunina refers to the old owner of the land on which the vineyard is located, dedicated to Casanova’s poorer mistress, who was a housekeeper in Venice called Tunina (Antonia).
In 1979 Luigi Veronelli defined this wine as “A real Mennea of wines, an exciting Cru of the Collio Goriziano” precisely on 12 September of that year, Pietro Mennea won the 200m dash in Mexico City with a time of 19′ 72” establishing the world record that remained unbeaten for 17 years.
THE WINEMAKING
The harvest is strictly manual and occurs in the first days of September, and only the selected grapes are taken to the cellar for winemaking. After the soft pressing, the wine ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. As far as ageing is concerned, a part of the wine ages in the same steel tanks while a part ages in oak barrels of 60 and 80 hectoliter. After blending and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar for a few more months before being placed on the market.
THE TASTING
Brilliant straw yellow with golden reflections. The aroma is intense, with pleasant notes of exotic yellow fruit that alternate with hints of wildflowers with puffs of saffron and honey. It continues with aromatic herbs and mineral sensations. Very fresh on the palate, Extremely well structured, with a perfect match between the aromas and the flavour. Persistence is very long.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Perfect with fish but also with white meats, to be tried with truffle-based dishes.
