IL VINO
The Maremeo from the Tenuta Gorghi Tondi winery is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc, Catarratto and Traminer grapes in percentages that vary depending on the vintage, grown in vineyards owned by the winery. We are near Mazara del Vallo in the westernmost part of Sicily, a stone’s throw from the sea and the sea breezes. The estate is located within a nature reserve protected by the WWF.
The winery is a family-run winery run by women, and since 2016 all vineyards have been certified organic, which means that all the wines are organic and carry the famous green leaf on the label. Both in the vineyard and in the cellar, there is the utmost respect for nature and its balance.
Maremeo is a fresh, “carefree” wine, inspired by the joy of sea foam. Even the name has something playful, the winery images the sirens (mythological figures), emerging from the depths of the abyss to make “marameo” to our life routine. This wine is perfect for those who want to always be on vacation!
THE WINEMAKING
After the harvest, only the selected grapes go to the cellar for winemaking, which begins with soft pressing. The must ferments in steel tanks at a controlled temperature. The refinement also occurs in steel, where the wine ages for about five months on the noble lees. After assembly and bottling, the wine rests for a few more months in the cellar before being released on the market.
THE TASTING
Pale golden yellow with greenish reflections; the aroma is pleasant with hints of lime and passion fruit that intertwine with notes of peach to close with light spicy puffs. Fresh and well-balanced on the palate, this Maremeo has a pleasant acidic note, that invites you to drink and a long and persistent finish.
FOOD PAIRINGS
Maremeo is perfect with fish, white meats and soft cheeses. Try with vegetable cream soups.
