Ciao,
Today we talk about the Zorzetting winery, a beautiful reality I met a few months ago and appreciated. A family-run winery with a century-old history; as the current owner Annalisa Zorzettig says, being a winemaker is a family vocation.
The winery
We are in Spessa, a town near Cividale del Friuli in Friuli Venezia Giulia. By the way, if you pass by here, you must spend a day in Cividale, a city founded by Julius Caesar named Forum Iulii in 568 AD; it was the seat of the first Lombard duchy in Italy. I leave you the link to turismofvg for more info.
Going back to the main topic, the winery is located in Spessa in the heart of the Colli Orientali del Friuli. One hundred fifteen hectares of vineyards split mainly over three hills; the hills of Spessa here the vineyards are all around the winery’s headquarters. Here the South-South East exposure is perfect for the native vines such as Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Picolit and Pignolo.
The hills of Ipplis; the excellent sun exposure allows the perfect ripening of the grapes of autochthonous long-lived white vines, such as Malvasia, and international ones, such as Sauvignon.
And finally, the Colli di Novacuzzo in Prepotto; here, the vineyards take advantage of the perfect climate which enjoys the protection of the Julian Pre-Alps and the Adriatic Sea, which is just a few steps away, with significant temperature ranges; moreover, the unique terroir (the ponca) allows to extract all the olfactory qualities of the grapes.
Zorzettig cultivates here the Schioppettino, the absolute protagonist of Prepotto and the vineyards of Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso. Also, in Prepotto, there are some Friulano vineyards that date back to 1930 and are the pride of the winery
Franconia
A gem among the Zorzettig winery’s wine list is the Franconia, a relatively light red wine with a ruby red colour and mainly floral aromas. A treasure that you must taste; trust me!
See you soon
ciao
